Antonelli Eyes F1 Title in Austin Climax
Kimi Antonelli eyes his first F1 Drivers’ Championship title at the Austin Grand Prix, leading the season with a strong performance.

With the United States Grand Prix in Austin approaching, Antonelli has a chance to mathematically clinch the championship.
The Road to Austin
After the Singapore Grand Prix, six race weekends remain, all in the standard Grand Prix format, meaning that on paper, 150 points are up for grabs, with 25 points awarded to each race winner. Antonelli currently leads the standings with a 102-point advantage over his teammate George Russell and a 111-point lead over Lewis Hamilton.
To secure the title in Austin, Antonelli needs to maintain at least a 125-point lead over his rivals after the United States Grand Prix. A win in Austin would significantly boost his chances, but it also depends on the performances of Russell and Hamilton.
Scenarios and Implications
If Antonelli wins in Austin, he would move to 365 points, 127 points ahead of Russell and 136 points ahead of Hamilton before their results are factored in. Russell must finish eighth or higher to stay in contention, while Hamilton needs a top-four finish. A victory for Antonelli would eliminate Lando Norris, Charles Leclerc, and Max Verstappen from the title race, given their current point deficits.
Currently, Antonelli holds a 139-point lead over Norris, which would extend to 164 points with a win in Austin. Even if Norris finishes second, the gap would only narrow to 146 points, keeping him out of striking range. Similarly, Antonelli’s 125-point lead over Leclerc would grow to 150 points with a win, and a second-place finish from Leclerc would only reduce the gap to 132 points.
Against Verstappen, Antonelli enjoys a 119-point lead. A win in Austin would extend this to 144 points, which Verstappen could only narrow to 126 points with a second-place finish, still outside of striking range. Antonelli’s lead over Hamilton is 111 points, and a win in Austin would grow this to 136 points. If Hamilton finishes second, he would reduce the gap to 118 points, keeping him in contention. If Antonelli wins and Hamilton finishes fifth, the gap would narrow to 126 points, with only 125 points remaining after the United States Grand Prix.
The Impact of Middle East Tensions
The ongoing tensions in the Middle East have already disrupted the F1 calendar, with the cancellation of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix and the relocation of the Bahrain Grand Prix. The final two races in Qatar and Abu Dhabi remain uncertain, and F1 has not announced a decision on their status. The cancellation of Rally Saudi Arabia by the sport’s governing body does not bode well for these races.
Hypothetical Scenarios
If the Qatar and Abu Dhabi races are removed from the schedule, only four race weekends remain, leaving 100 points available. In this scenario, Antonelli, with a 102-point lead over Russell, would have already clinched the title. F1 has floated the idea of adding a race in Imola if both Qatar and Abu Dhabi are canceled, but this remains speculative.
