The Oklahoma City Thunder confirmed that Chet Holmgren will miss the next two months after undergoing a “biological treatment” for a right-knee patellar tendon tear. Team officials said his recovery window is eight to ten weeks.

Holmgren first reported mild discomfort in that knee during the Oct. 25 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers. The injury marks his first prolonged absence since a pelvic fracture in November 2024, which he overcame to help the franchise win the 2025 title.

Before the procedure, he was averaging 12 points, 9.3 rebounds and three blocks per game. He logged 69 games in an All-Defensive campaign last season, contributing significantly on both ends of the floor. His defensive presence, highlighted by his block numbers, made him a key anchor for the team’s interior.

The club also listed guard Cason Wallace as out for the near future after left-shoulder surgery. The organization said he will be re-evaluated before the close of the 2026-27 regular season.

Because of the trio’s injuries, Oklahoma City qualifies for a hardship roster exception. The move allowed the squad to sign free-agent guard Ochai Agbaji without affecting its salary-cap calculations, leaving roughly $4.6 million of space under the second apron.

With only Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Isaiah Hartenstein remaining from the opening lineup, the Thunder must redistribute the missing production. The situation forces younger players such as Jared McCain, Ajay Mitchell and Kenrich Williams into larger roles, testing the depth that helped the club start 4-1.
