Barcelona have signaled they are still pursuing Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez despite a public dispute with the Spanish club and interest from English and French sides.

Barcelona’s latest offer and the club’s stance

President Joan Laporta confirmed that the Catalan club’s current bid of just over £100 million remains on the table. Sources in Spain suggest the offer could be increased to more than £110 million, roughly €130 million, plus performance‑related bonuses. Laporta told reporters the proposal “remains on the table and the deal could still go through, but the offer is not open‑ended.”

Atletico’s chief executive Miguel Gil Marín has rebuffed the offer, accusing Barcelona of “disrespecting us.” The two clubs’ relationship is described as “all‑time low” after a social‑media spat, and the Spanish side is expected to continue refusing to sell the striker.

Real Madrid previously had a £130 million (€150 million) bid rejected, indicating that the market value of Alvarez is firmly established among Europe’s elite clubs.

Interest from other clubs and Alvarez’s preferences

Arsenal and Paris Saint‑Germain are also linked to the Argentine forward, but both would need to overcome the same hurdle: Atletico’s unwillingness to release him without a suitable replacement. According to reports, the club might be more flexible if Alvarez personally requested a move, though its current stance is to keep the player.

Alvarez, fresh from Argentina’s World Cup campaign, is slated to take a short holiday before rejoining Atletico for pre‑season training. Sky Sports notes that he has long expressed a desire to play for Barcelona, and his family prefers to remain in Spain.

Alvarez remains undecided.

In practice, the stalemate means the forward is likely to stay at Atletico unless either the player pushes for a move abroad or the club decides to compromise on its replacement policy. For the fans, the uncertainty may linger through the summer window.

While the financial figures dominate headlines, the human element is perhaps the most telling. If his family is set on staying in Spain, any move to England or France would involve more than just a contract; it would mean uprooting a household that has grown accustomed to life in Madrid. That reality could tip the scales toward a Barcelona deal, provided the Catalans are prepared to meet Atletico’s demands.

As the transfer window progresses, the next steps will likely involve further negotiations between Barcelona and Atletico, with the possibility of a revised bid emerging. Whether the clubs can bridge the gap remains to be seen, but the forward’s future will be a focal point for supporters across Europe.
